How could anyone do this an innocent little puppy?
San Francisco -- City animal care officials increased their reward from $2,000 to nearly $15,000 today for information that would help them nab the killer of Pogo, the three-legged pit bull puppy that was stabbed to death in July.
The seven-month-old dog had come to San Francisco Animal Care and Control as a stray, with a back right leg that had to be amputated because it had two paws, a birth defect. The agency gave Pogo to Grateful Dogs Rescue, whose volunteers work with dogs from the city shelter and helped raise the money for the surgery.
Pogo was then placed in foster care and was walking at Ocean Beach with his temporary owner on the evening of July 22 when he disappeared behind a sand dune. His body was found a week later by a passer-by in the Bayview District.
Officials described Pogo as a friendly and trusting dog, weighing about 40 pounds, with white markings around his nose and on his chest. He was wearing a red collar when he disappeared.
The reward is for information leading to the arrest and conviction of his killer or killers. Anyone with information about this crime or other acts of animal cruelty can call Animal Care and Control at (415) 554-9400. Donors to the reward fund can call (415) 554-9413.
